The COVID Vaccine - A 2023 Approach
In April 2023, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a “2nd bivalent mRNA booster vaccine for seniors and immunocompromised populations.” The FDA notes that this change was meant to simplify COVID vaccine recommendations going forward.
Unfortunately, terms like “mRNA,” “bivalent,” and “2nd booster” have created confusion for many of us, and, in particular, for nursing home populations where many residents are over age 65 and/or have relative degrees of immunocompromise.
May is Asthma Awareness Month—a time to educate friends, family, and patients about asthma and promote awareness about how this serious, sometimes life-threatening, chronic respiratory disease can be controlled. During Asthma Awareness Month, the United States Environmental Protection Agency provides ready-to-use tools and resources for use promoting asthma awareness in your community, including how it is impacted by smoking.
High Blood Pressure Education Month
Cardiovascular disease, heart disease, coronary heart disease — what’s the difference? Because these terms sound so similar, people use them interchangeably. This fact sheet will help you understand how these conditions differ.

Burnout in Primary Care: Assessing and Addressing it in Your Practice
Burnout is a workplace-based condition where people experience overwhelming exhaustion, cynicism and detachment from the job, and ineffectiveness. The personal consequences can be severe, including higher rates of alcohol and drug use, divorce, and suicide. Burnout can increase worker turnover and reduce the quality of care, leading to lower patient satisfaction and patient safety as well as higher costs of care. Primary care administrators and leaders can use this guide to obtain information, tools, strategies, and additional resources.
