Effective April 1st, CMS updated infection prevention and control guidance related to Enhanced Barrier Precautions (EBP) QSO-24-08-NH.
The recommendations now include the use of EBP during high-contact care activities for residents with chronic wounds or indwelling medical devices, regardless of their MDRO status, in addition to residents who have an infection or colonization with a CDC-targeted or other epidemiologically important MDRO when contact precautions do not apply.
This new guidance is being incorporated in F880 Infection Prevention and Control to assist LTC surveyors when evaluating the use of enhanced barrier precautions in nursing homes. Download Qsource’s EBP Sample Policy Copy and tailor the sample policy to your facility.

CDC is investigating multi-jurisdictional clusters of infections due to Burkholderia multivorans. Please notify TDH if you receive this organism on a lab report at HAI.Health@TN.gov
The LTCF reporting period for the 2023-2024 influenza season is from October 1, 2023 through March 31, 2024. To meet CMS reporting requirements, HCP influenza vaccination summary data reports must be entered into NHSN no later than May 15, 2024 for the 2023-2024 influenza season.
